Welcome to Dovecote Farm

Our WineShop
Welcome to Dovecote Farm, our family-run vineyard founded in 2014, in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The definition of a dovecote is “a small building for doves or domesticated pigeons to live in.” They were an important food source in medieval Europe, and also a sign of status and power. Many dovecotes and their ruins are still standing in France, England, Belgium, Spain, and Scotland. A second definition of a dovecote is “a settled or harmonious group or organization.” We hope our farm and winery will continue to be this for many years and generations to come.

Our Wine

Our hybrid grafted Vinifera rootstock grows vigorously after April bud break to produce clean fruit ready for harvest by the end of August. During the growing season, we tend the vineyard daily. Our mission is to produce Chardonnay grapes of the highest caliber and ultimately, a full-bodied wine reflective of the rich history and soil of Albemarle County, in the Monticello wine appellation of Central Virginia. We are proud to partner with award-winning King Family Vineyards as our contract winemaker.

Our vines are planted in rocky but fertile soil. They mirror the hard-working Virginians that cultivated the land before us to create a better life for their families and community. Our Chardonnay vines were planted in April, 2014, at an elevation of 950 feet, clone 96, rootstock 101-14. They have done exceptionally well in a short period of time. Production is limited given our small site and our focus on quality, so please order early before we sell out. We hope you enjoy our wine as much as we enjoy creating it.
